Character is the heart of leadership. In DeepLEADTM, the matter of the heart is the heart of the matter. There is no authentic, deep or lasting leadership without it coming from the inside out, leading with character. Whichever way you slice it, character is the heart of leadership. And the thing is that character is largely formed in the crucibles of lifeOne of the primary jobs of a leader is to strengthen and guard their inner core and personal foundations i.e. character. Ideally it should be written in a leader’s job description but even if it isn’t, let it be known to the person of a leader that nurturing one’s inner life, growing one’s character and protecting it are part of the job of leadership. If “everything rises and falls on leadership”; then everything leadership rises and falls on character.
In this module 5 (of 8) of the DeepLEAD Growth Series, Crucibles & Character & Character, you will:
Establish the prime place of character in leadership—the heart of leadership,
Define character in a unique way as the totality of one’s VAMETI and streamline its components,
Demonstrate how character formation is part and parcel of a leader’s job description.
Strengthen personal foundations by nurturing and protecting your character first; not just reputation, and
Make friends with crucibles, reframing life’s hard situations as an ally not an enemy.
Who this course is for?
LeaderVarsity is aimed at both youth/learners as an emerging workforce and established leaders, especially teachers and executives who shape the world of learning and beyond but who may inadvertently have gaps in their own leadership formation. From the foregoing, it is evident that Leadervarsity “promote[s] lifelong learning opportunities for all”, the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). Again, if by 2030 Africa would have “substantially increase[d] the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills… for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship,” according to SDG 4.4, then an edtech intervention like LeaderVarsity at scale is a sine qua non. The tech-enabled and tech-based nature of LeaderVarsity provides the kind of access (anyone anywhere) that makes SDG 4 vision of inclusivity and equitability of quality education happen. The goal of LeaderVarsity is the fulfilment of SDGs 4 (education), 8 (decent work and economic growth) and 17 (partnerships).
