As a follow-up to Module 3 (Leading with Self-Awareness), we dig deeper: Leading from Life Story. One of the first and foremost things to be acutely aware of and to leverage among the dozen-and-a-half self-awareness metrics in order to be a DeepLEADer is one’s own life narrative. There is the tendency to see leadership as something ‘up there’ and ‘out there’ when really from the Latin root of the word itself (ducere), leadership is a ‘drawing out’. Your best leadership will not come from trying out a long list of characteristics of great leaders or even emulating outstanding ones, but from deeply reflecting on and leveraging your own life story. It is from ‘in here’.The raw material needed for great leadership is found in your own life story. That, is DeepLEADTM.Your best leadership is to lead like you—and there is no one like you.
In this module 4 (of 8) of the DeepLEAD Growth Series, Leading from Life Story, you will:
Reclaim leadership from an esoteric, other worldly experience and ground it in your own life story (your best leadership is to lead like you),
Buttress the validity of leading from one’s life story from leadership experts, case studies and theories,
Be encouraged to explore your own life story, examine your responses and encouraged to reframe—the good, bad, ugly—for positive leadership, and
Be given the time and tools to practically explore the patterns, passion, purpose etc. of your life and leadership.
Who this course is for?
LeaderVarsity is aimed at both youth/learners as an emerging workforce and established leaders, especially teachers and executives who shape the world of learning and beyond but who may inadvertently have gaps in their own leadership formation. From the foregoing, it is evident that Leadervarsity “promote[s] lifelong learning opportunities for all”, the fourth Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). Again, if by 2030 Africa would have “substantially increase[d] the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills… for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship,” according to SDG 4.4, then an edtech intervention like LeaderVarsity at scale is a sine qua non. The tech-enabled and tech-based nature of LeaderVarsity provides the kind of access (anyone anywhere) that makes SDG 4 vision of inclusivity and equitability of quality education happen. The goal of LeaderVarsity is the fulfilment of SDGs 4 (education), 8 (decent work and economic growth) and 17 (partnerships).
